Tyholland 3-07 Killeeven 4-04
Tyholland fought back to claim a point last Saturday afternoon in what was an absorbing encounter that flowed from end to end over the 50 minutes and a draw was probably a fair result as neither set of players deserved to walk away empty handed.
Killeeven got off to the better start and deservedly took a one point lead but this was cancelled out by a fine Gerard Treanor effort. All thoughts that this was to be a follow up to their facile win in the last match over Oram was quickly put to rest when the visitors broke up the field to add a second point. Tyholland then had one of their best periods in the game when play-maker in chief Jonathan McKenna kicked a fine point which was follow by a even better goal from Aaron Maxwell who blasted to the top corner to give the home side the lead for the first time. Tyholland extended this lead to seven points courtesy of a point from the lively Jamie Fanning and a goal from Gerard Treanor. Killeevan to their credit didn't lie down and their route one tactics paid dividends when they knocked in two goals and could have had another if it wasn't for a good save from Jake McCann. Tyholland had the final say of the half though from another Gerard Treanor point which left the half time score Tyholland 2-04 Killeeven 2-02
The second half wasn't minutes old when the visitors had crashed the ball to the net and in fact before the hosts had time to settle from that set back another long ball managed to nestle itself in the net which left Tyholland four points in arrears. Jonathan McKenna reduced the gap with two excellent points but this was extended courtesy of another Killeeven point. Tyholland needed a big lift at this stage and they duly got it when after excellent work from Kevin Hughes, Jamie Fanning smashed the ball to the net which left the sides all-square. With full-time approaching Darragh Treanor lined himself up to take a free kick, the ball was drove towards the full forward line but it eluded everyone and bounced over the bar to give Tyholland a one point lead which thanks to some great second half defending from Jamie Smith, Shane Dooley, Conor Rice and second half sub Mathew Gillanders who had replaced the consistent Conor Slowey looked like being the winner but it wasn't to be as the visitors grabbed a draw with a last minute point although Tyholland had one last chance to grab the win courtesy of a free kick but it wasn't to be.
Although visibly disappointed at the end that they hadn't taken both points, the Management team of Sean "Rocker" Treanor, Roddy McCoy and Kevin "Hairdryer Treatment" Kavanagh should take great pride from the display as their youngsters showed great skill throughout and also great courage to bounce back when it looked like the game was getting away from them.
Next Game is on Saturday the 12th May away to Doohamlet at 4pm..All Welcome |

Tyholland 0-18 Blackhill 0-05
Tyholland made it two wins from two with this very impressive win. Playing on home soil for the 1st time this year the hosts started rather nervous but this didn't last long after Mel Boyce had given them the lead, a lead they would never squander. With the very impressive Ryan McKenna and Cormac Finnegan commanding things in the full back line ther was no way through for the visitors and with the excellent Mel Boyce who fired over a further 3 points commanding things in midfield along side the tireless Colm O'Gorman who covered every blade of grass on the pitch Tyholland went in at half time 0-08 0-02 up with the other scores coming from Dean Treanor(2) and points apiece from Karl Mooney and Darren Gallagher.
The 1st score of the 2nd half was always going to have a big bearing on what the final outcome and thankfully it came from the boot of our centre half back Niall Askin who glided forward to kick a great long range effort. The game wasn't over as a contest though and only for good handling from captain for the evening Jimmy Morris in Goals it would have been a tighter contest. After these brief scares Tyholland stepped up a gear and with Michael McQuaid driving forward from the back Tyholland built up a healthy lead with further scores coming from Dean Treanor(2), Darren Gallagher, Karl Mooney and a brace apiece from Shane McQuaid and David McCaffrey the 2nd of which was a great fisted effort when it looked like he had nowhere to go,with about 12minutes to go the hard working Ryan Lee and Shane McQuaid were replaced by Mathew Moan and Shane Askin and it was left to the latter to finish of the scoring when he kicked a fine effort from out on the wing.
This was a great Team performance from all who played on the night and with both subs doing so well when introduced it gives the Management Team of Barry Farrelly, Declan Connolly and Peadar Farrelly a selection headache that most managers crave.
This team is next in action on Saturday the 5th of May when they travel to meet Doohamlet at 4pm. |
