| |
| |
|
Tyholland's slim hopes off retaining their Senior status were dealt an almighty blow with an injury time goal clinching the 2 points for Scotstown. Dermot Coyle widened the gap to 2 points (0-8 to 0-6) with a free on the half time whistle.
The second half was a lot tighter than the first with good defending on both sides especially from Gary McQuaid, Karl O'Connell and Cyril Ronaghan. Brian McArdle scored the only point in the first 15 minutes of the half to increase Tyholland's lead to 3. Scotstown narrowed the gap to 1 with 3 points in reply to a massive free from Raymond Ronaghan from the 45 meter line. Then on 24 minutes Raymond Ronaghan extended Tyholland's lead to 4 points with a well taken goal. Scotstown reduced Tyholland's lead to 2 points with injury time looming. Then disaster stuck deep into injury time with Scotstown scoring the winning goal to take the points.

Tyholland take the Points

Tyholland seniors finally grabbed their first win of the season with a hard fought victory at home to Inniskeen. Tyholland started brightly with 3 unanswered points from Shane Treanor, Brian McArdle and a rare Cyril Ronaghan left footed score and never relinquished their lead throughout the game. Tyholland opened a six point gap with further scores from Brian McArdle, Michael Boyce, Shane Treanor and Karl O'Connell to make it. Raymond Ronaghan was then brought down in the penalty area but unfortunately he squandered the chance to increase the lead even further by blasting the penalty wide. 0-07 to 0-03 up at half time Tyholland extended their lead to 7 with Shane Treanor sending over a point and Gary McQuaid knocking over a free from the 45'. Inniskeen then upped their game and reduced the deficit to the minimum with minutes remaining. Tyholland defended resolutely with Gary and Kevin McQuaid, Ronan McNally and Brendan McQuillan on the top of their games. Raymond Ronaghan knocked over the all important winner from a free to extend Tyholland's lead to 2 points and leave the final score Tyholland 0-10 Inniskeen 0-8 |

Castleblayney pulled away in the closing stages for a slightly flattering double-scores win over Tyholland in the SFC in Clontibret on Friday last. The eight point margin was harsh on Tyholland, who were still in with a chance going into the final quarter' but Blayney's greater options up front made the difference. Kieran Tavey, Dermot McArdle, Cormac Brady and Ciaran Hanratty were prominent for Blayney while Raymond and Cyril Ronaghan and Shane Treanor were best for Tyholland.
Niall Duffy opened the scoring for Blayney before Kieran Tavey and Raymond Ronaghan swapped points from twenty metre frees after fouls on Paul Coyle and Martin McElroy. A great point from play by Tavey was cancelled out by a fine score from James McQuaid before another Tavey free for a foul on McElroy gave Blayney a two point lead. A Brian McArdle point after a long free by Gary McQuaid halved the gap but McElroy replied with a good point from play. A thirty metre free by Paul Askin kept Tyholland in touch but twenty metre frees by Tavey and Ciaran Hanratty, both after fouls on Aidan Ward, gave Blayney a 0-7 to 0-4 lead at half-time.
Sub Marc McHugh increased that advantage a minute after the restart before Askin tapped over a thirteen metre free following a foul on Shane Treanor. Tyholland almost drew level when good work by Treanor set up a goal chance for Cyril Ronaghan but his powerful shot was brilliantly saved by Padraig McBennett. A twenty metre free by Hanratty restored the four point gap but excellent points by Raymond Ronaghan and Treanor reduced Tyholland's deficit to two entering the final twenty minutes. Blayney responded though with a well-taken point by Tavey and points by Ward and Hanratty, the latter a fisted effort after a Ryan Tracey shot dropped short. Treanor gave Tyholland some hope with a point after good approach play by Cyril Ronaghan and Gary McQuaid but they failed to score in the final twelve minutes. Good points by Duffy (set up brilliantly by Hanratty) and sub Dermot Malone after strong work by Dermot McArdle left six between them with as many minutes left. Hanratty added a point from play and Tavey finished off the scoring with a well-struck '45 as Blayney stretched their unbeaten run to eight games. |

Tyholland traveled to Carrickmacross in search of their first win of the season and again left with nothing. 4 points separated the sides at the half way point with Paul Askin scoring all of Tyholland's 3 points (1-4 to 0-3). Carrick increased this lead to 6 at the start of the 2nd half despite Tyholland scores from Karl O'Connell and Cathal Quinn. Adam Askin provided a lifeline for the visitors with a well taken goal but Tyholland failed to capitalise on this going 5 behind once again. Paul Askin added another before being lined with a 2nd Yellow and Karl O'Connell added another to reduce the margin to 3. Tyholland tried in vain to score an equalising goal but the chance never materialised. Final Score 1-10 to 1-7 |

Tyholland lose in Doohamlet

Tyholland remained pointless after Wednesday evenings visit to Doohamlet. A very poor first half performance saw us 8 points down at the break. Paul Askin opened the scoring but Tyhollannd then failed to score until the end of the half. Doohamlet clocked up 1-8 before Askin added 2 points to leave us 1-8 to 0-3 down at half time. We started the second half well with Paul Askin again adding 2 points. However a misplaced tyholland pass resulted in a Doohamlet counter attack which ended up in the back of the net and put Doohamlet 10 points ahead. Clontibret win local derby
| |
| |
|
Tyholland traveled the short distance to Clontibret last Saturday evening to face the County Champions in our 2nd Senior League game of the season. Clontibret showed us why they are county champions with a comprehensive win and only for Pauric Hamill making a number of great saves the final scoreline may have been worse. Tyholland did kick a number of bad wides and had goal chances of our own. However, we never looked like upsetting the home side. Our only goal came near the end of the game through Cyril Ronaghan in what was an all-round disappointing performance. Final Score Clontibret 1-15 Tyholland 1-3 |
